Prisoners

Prisoners

Prisoners

Rating 8 out of 10

I had no plans to see this show.  When I watched the trailer the movie looked so predictable.  I like the actors.  Hugh Jackman we know makes a mean Wolverine and Jake Gyllenhaal kisses cowboys on mountains.  I just know how liberal Hollywood can screw up something like this.

I had a rain day with nothing else to see and Prisoners had the wife's seal of approval.  I went in with a chip on my shoulder knowing worst case how I'd be able to tell the wife we disagreed (that never happens of course).  Amazingly enough the movie was very good!

Prisoners stars off slow making parents squirm in our seats knowing that our worst nightmare is around the corner.  You take your eye off your child for a minute and they disappear without a trace.  Horrible.   On Thanksgiving day the Dover (Jackman) and Birch (Terrance Howard) families are eating their turkey when the two little girls go outside to play.  When they can't be found a suspicious mobile home is tracked down with a very mentally challenged young man behind the wheel.  Everyone knows he played a part in the abduction.  The problem is there is no proof.

As you have seen from the trailer Jackman takes things into his own hands and makes us parents ask the question how far would we go to get our children back?  There are a few brutal moments in the movie for those of you that don't care for them.  My wife survived those moments so I figure anyone can.

Acting is very good.  Jackman is incredible.  Gyllenhaal is great as the detective that has never lost a case.  He starts worrying more about keeping his streak alive then truly cares about the girls.

Good movie.  I recommend it.
